Day 12…telling the fam you’ve lost your marbles and decided to basically quit your current life for a new one traveling around the world. This was scary for me, I’m not going to lie…I tried to ease them into it by mentioning how my insatiable wanderlust was reaching critical mass a couple (dozen) times, and then telling them specific places I want to go, and then finally just going for it. I told my siblings first. I’m blessed with a sister, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters-in-law, all of whom are incredibly supportive. My goal in telling them first was to hopefully have people that would have my back when I told my parents, which, frankly, terrified me. Yes, I’m 27 years old and disappointing my parents still terrifies me. Anyway, I did finally tell them and my advice to you if you’re getting ready to tell family or friends whom you think will react badly is to prepare yourself. Write down what it is you want to tell them about why you are doing this. Show them that you have thought this through and put a lot of effort into your plans. Convince them that you are ready to take this step. And if all of that fails, let go. Ultimately, you have to do what is right for YOU, regardless of what others think.
