My favorite order is out of order…

Today I bought plane tickets for my stint in Spain in October with the ‘rents. So what?, you may ask. You need those plane tickets. To which I answer, why yes I do, but I should first probably buy the ticket that is going to get me to Europe. Minor detail.  My proposed departure date is a mere 2 months and 3 days away and I still haven’t bought my flight over there.  I really need to get my ass in gear, but this damn concussion isn’t helping anything.

I’m a week behind on my spanish lessons, I haven’t bought my flight to London, I need to finalize details of the France portion of my trip, I need to rework the Italy portion, I need to take a second look at the financial projection (which may lead to nixing Morocco and overhauling Spain and Portugal), I still haven’t opened a Schwab savings account (hello no ATM fees!), I need to figure out how to best utilize the airline miles I’ve been accruing, I’d like to compile a list of possible work leads for Australia, get a YHA membership, buy travel insurance and a dozen other details.

So yea, that’s what I need to do. It would be helpful if I would do things in a logical order, but I know that’s not going to happen. I’ll at least try to get things done by the time they have to get done…for the moment that means getting back on track with my spanish lessons, buying a flight to london, sending in the info for my schwab account and figuring out the first 3 weeks of my trip. Ok, yea, that’s manageable. Those will be my goals for the week.  Paying my rent should really be on that list too…and going the bank to deposit some checks so the rent check doesn’t bounce. Ok, now that’s my list…until I think of more things.

Now, I’ve got to go lie down and try not to think for a while.  If you’ve ever had a bad concussion, you’ll sympathize.

So tired, must sleep…no, NO, Must WRITE!! This is

So tired, must sleep…no, NO, Must WRITE!!

This is exactly what my thought process was tonight as I crawled into bed after working a 9 hour catering shift…I guess I’m not completely recovered from my bronchitis and upper respiratory infection yet.  On the plus side, 9 hours means $135 towards traveling 🙂 plus we each got a $22 tip…woot! Normally, I’d stick that tip into my travel fund as well, but damn it, I haven’t gone out and done something fun in QUITE a while so I think that’s going towards next weekend instead.

Anyway, back to traveling, I found out some very important information this weekend as I tried to reorganize the France portion of my trip to cut down on costs without cutting down on fun.  What I learned is…are you ready for this?…companies are out to make a profit. Ok, ok, not exactly groundbreaking, so let’s just say that fact was reiterated by some information I gained.  I was perusing’s website, trying to get an idea of what the trains I want to take in France will cost me, when I stumbled upon a portion of his website explaining why you should never claim USA as your home country on Rail Europe.  His reasoning was that the company blatantly overcharges Americans for train tickets on the presumption that they won’t know any different.  I did a little test looking up tickets under the US version of Rail Europe and the french version and HOLY SHIT.  It was not just a difference of a few dollars…more like double or more for the same train. I guess I shouldn’t be so naive, but come on! That is just not right!  Here is the link to the article for those who want to avoid being fleeced by the train companies in France.

Ok, I’ve shared my wisdom, now I must sleeeeeep. I’ve got an 8 hour catering event tomorrow, and I really should shower beforehand, so yea, gnight!

I (want to) see London, I (want to) see France, I (unfortunately) see my underpants…

It’s laundry day, hence the underpants thing ;-P.  London and France are relevant too.  I am definitely going to both on my trip, though I’m not sure where in France yet.  London is pretty much covered.  I’m staying with a buddy of mine and as a long-term tourist to the area (He’s from Scotland), I’m sure he’ll be able to give me the low down on what I have to see.  France on the other hand, is a different story. I’ve been there twice, but was pretty young so I’m excited to see the country through different eyes.  I know I’ll be visiting Paris for a couple of days which is awesome.  I’m obsessed with the art in Paris and I’m not just talking about what’s in the Louvre and d’Orsay, but the buildings, the streets, and the people too! I’m only able to visit that oh-so-marvelous (and extremely expensive) city because of the generosity of a couple I know who have hotel points that expire at the end of the year that they don’t have time to use (thanks mom and dad!) I also want to visit Mont St. Michel, but I’m not sure that will be possible on 50$/day :-(. What I’m trying to figure out is where else to go??  Suggestions are more than welcome, they are encouraged! Just keep in mind I am on a limited budget lol.
